When scale, complexity, and security converge—real-time insights make all the difference
On March 21, the world watched as BTS made their comeback with ARIRANG, a groundbreaking live event held at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. With over 100,000 attendees, a historic city center, and a global Netflix broadcast —it was a production in which operational control and situational awareness were of critical importance.
For this event, The Event Control Center deployed multiple Showcases for the Joint Agency Control Center (JACC), enabling all stakeholders to operate from a single shared operational picture.
Within a few hours, the JACC was fully operational and integrated:
- Live and recorded CCTV camera feeds (events, city, traffic, and security)
- Incident management and operational dashboards
- weather and traffic information
- broadcast and program feeds
The result: a single, integrated, real-time operational overview of the entire 1.4-kilometer-long event area and the surrounding streets. All information is immediately accessible. All decisions are data-driven.
The Showcase enabled the JACC team to:
✔ Monitor large event venues in real time
✔ Detect and assess incidents more quickly
✔ Effortlessly switch between overview and detail
✔ Enable effective collaboration across multiple disciplines
✔ Stay calm and keep a clear head under pressure
From daily monitoring to critical moments, operators used the large overview screens for rapid coordination and decision-making—without losing their operational focus. The busylight traffic light system facilitated clear communication and discipline in the JACC at the right moments.
This project demonstrates what is possible when technology, process, and people come together. What stood out to us the most? The professionalism of the JACC team. After a brief introduction, the Showcase was immediately put to intuitive use: for continuous monitoring, rapid decision-making, and targeted escalation in the event of incidents.
This event was truly unique in terms of its scale, complexity, and collaboration. We are proud that the Showcase contributed to safety, situational awareness, and effective decision-making, and we thank the JACC team and all participating partners for their trust and cooperation.
